Release timeline

Every confirmed date and announcement, newest first. Entries are dated and permanent, so this page doubles as the record of promises versus delivery.

Nothing here is ever rewritten. When a date moves, the move is appended as its own entry and the older entry stays exactly as it was written.

  1. Retail release

ICv2 reported from Gen Con 2026 that the actual release of the first set into stores will be in January 2027, and that the release date is in the process of being pushed back to Q1 2027. Starter sets, booster displays and collector bundles carry Q1 2027 dates at major retail distributors, which matches. This is when you can reliably buy the game.

  2. Launch event

Dawn of Terror gets its Halloween launch event. Per ICv2, Spin Master is still planning some type of launch event in October 2026 even though the set does not reach stores until 2027, so treat October 31 as an event date rather than a street date. UK and Ireland distribution through Asmodee was given an October window.

  3. Jason Voorhees confirmed for Dawn of Terror

Friday the 13th’s slasher icon revealed at Gen Con, with multiple cards shown in coverage over the following days. The first confirmed monster that does not trace cleanly to the original Universal, Blumhouse, AMC and Lionsgate license list named at announcement - the Headless Horseman later made the same point with a Paramount copyright line printed on the card art.

  4. Card Reveal Season begins

An official blog post launches a weekly cadence of card reveals, titled "CRS" going forward. First reveal: the Colossal Death Angel monster card from A Quiet Place, the set’s second Feral-aspect monster, alongside an "A Quiet Place" location card. The same post states the set’s target structure: 10 mechanically unique monster cards across 7 unique characters.

  5. Gen Con showing

Hellbreak was playable at Gen Con Indianapolis with print-and-play demo material circulating. Early player chatter compared its action system favorably to current designs. That is player reaction, not a review.

  6. Distribution and product details

Asmodee announced as international distribution partner for Europe, Canada, Asia, and UK/Ireland. Product configurations and MSRPs published: $27 two-player starter (Jaws vs Dracula), 24-pack booster displays at $143, $60 collector bundle. The official site published its quick-start rules and how-to-play material, with the complete rulebook listed as coming soon.

  7. The announcement

Spin Master and Universal Products and Experiences unveil Hellbreak, designed with Ghost Galaxy. Launch press names Universal’s catalog as the flagship source with Blumhouse, AMC, and Lionsgate properties in the pool, and frames the first set around roughly 250 cards. Printed collector numbering has since put the base set at 227. A launch move worth remembering: the worldwide window was pushed to increase production after demand ran ahead of the plan, which is either a good sign about interest or a caution about supply planning, and probably both.
