Hellbreak glossary
A working list of Hellbreak’s own vocabulary, plain-language definitions, updated as the official material grows.
- Aspect
- One of Hellbreak’s five card categories (Cursed, Deranged, Feral, Revenant, Void), tracked by icons that feed your Loyalty requirement. See aspects explained.
- Asset
- A card type played for an ongoing board effect rather than a one-time hit. See our card types page.
- Blood
- The resource currency spent to play a card. Count Alucard, the official example, costs 9 Blood.
- Card Reveal Season (CRS)
- The official weekly cadence of new card reveals on Hellbreak’s blog, announced July 3, 2026, and titled with "CRS" going forward. We cover each one on our news page.
- Crypt
- Hellbreak’s name for the discard pile.
- Event
- A one-shot effect card type. See our card types page.
- Health Stack
- The pool of health tracked for each player’s monster. reducing the opponent’s to zero wins the game.
- Initiative
- The turn-order resource: instead of simply alternating, players bid resources to seize the initiative each round.
- Location
- The card type representing the battlefield. each player brings one. No Location card has been revealed yet.
- Loyalty
- The requirement that you hold enough matching aspect icons in your Vault to play a card, on top of paying its Blood cost. See Vault, Blood, and Loyalty.
- Lurking
- The starting, quieter face of every double-sided Monster card. See Lurking vs Unleashed.
- Malice
- A second resource, named directly in the Quick-Start Rules PDF: some action abilities cost malice, and the starting supply hands it out alongside Blood.
- Minion
- The card type that fights on your behalf, attacking and defending.
- Monster
- The one double-sided card per deck that represents the player. starts Lurking, flips to Unleashed.
- Scheme
- An action a monster can take to deal direct damage or generate resources without attacking directly.
- Unleashed
- The flipped, more dangerous second face of a Monster card.
- Vault
- The growing resource pool built up over the course of a game, supplying both Blood and aspect icons.
